Shifting project management for billion-dollar brands into meaningful work in environmental and social justice, Katie is a big imaginative thinker who understands that changing behaviours starts with connection.
More About me
A storyteller by nature, I come to climate work by way of a career in entertainment. Leaving Vancouver Island to start a Bachelor of Music at Acadia University, I next called the whole world home, travelling and performing in over 20 countries. After years abroad, I moved to Toronto and carried my love for impactful experiences into four years of event programming for Soho House, where I connected a global community of creatives through 25-35 events each month in art, music, health & wellness, film, fashion and thought leadership.
Armed with a passion for bringing amazing ideas to life, I next executed large-scale activations for a roster of brands including Sonos, Chanel, OLG, Visa, Bacardi, Grey Goose, OVO, Bumble, adidas, Red Bull, Facebook, Clif Bar, lululemon and many more.
Bringing people together (from few to thousands) to learn, play, grow, and connect is what drives my work. Caring for our forest ecosystems and the incredible breadth of species that dwell within demands a new spirit of collaboration and my work at Canopy will help champion this collective action.
Why are forests important to me
To me, forests are the antidote to our modern and hyper-connected way of life. Nothing makes your personal problems feel smaller than stepping into an old-growth forest and sizing them up against a 400-year-old tree. Growing up on Vancouver Island, I would take my Magic Faraway Tree books into the forest and see what kind of imaginative and enchanted adventures I could have. Forests hold my fondest memories, and will always have a special place in my heart and work.
Why Canopy
Working with Canopy is like being paired with the brightest kid in class for a group project. Sure, in the current assignment; ‘Save the Planet’ we all need to do our part, but Canopy is the fearless leader and friend galvanizing the group with “how.” Powered by scalable solutions, Canopy is subverting the devastating churn and burn of vital forests and helping to build a future where we can lean our backs against ancient trees and breathe a wet-moss-oxygen-rich sigh of relief.
